As detailed in our previous post , most home-use water purification methods comprise of physical, chemical, and more often than not, a combination of both methods to purify water. It’s also apparent that countertop distillers (with an active carbon stage) are the most effective water purification systems at removing contaminants from water. However, two issues remain:

1. Like other purification technologies, they remove the good, healthy elements in water along with the contaminants and pollutants.
2. They are energy intensive.

At Mitte, we aim to reinvent the way we drink water at home, and were founded with the goal of improving lives with better water. After two years of spending countless of hours on R&D, prototyping, conducting experiments and user testings, we have built a machine that both purifies and enhances your drinking water. Inspired by the natural water cycle, it first purifies tap water with a proprietary distillation-based method, then enhances that pure water with essential minerals.

At Mitte, sustainability is at the top of mind. It not only replaces the consumption of plastic bottled water (thus resulting in less plastic wastage), but also recycles energy within the system. Energy is recycled at two spots – the heat exchanger and thermoelectric heat pumps. In fact, Mitte will be the only energy-recycling home-use distiller in the market, with a high coefficient of performance (COP – an indication of how many times you can reuse energy in a system) similar to that of a condenser dryer or dishwasher with an A+++ energy rating. Right now, we are further improving our design for mass production, aiming for an even higher COP to further reduce power consumption of the machine.
